Big Idea: A Heart That Loves God Above All Will Obey God's Law In All

Exodus 20:1-21

Why God’s Law Matters To Me:
1) The law shows me the heart & character of God
2) The law is a command not a suggestion
3) The law reminds me of my need for the Gospel

“We know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.”
-Galatians 2:16

4) Get in the fight (v. 9-13)
5) The law is fulfilled through love

“Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”
-Romans 13:8-10

2) Loving God above all means I demonstrate God’s love to all (v. 12-21)

How I demonstrate God’s love to all:
1) Honor my parents (v. 12)
2) Love instead of hate (v. 13)
3) Stay pure (v. 14)
4) Be a grateful steward (v. 15)
5) Speak the truth in love (v. 16)
6) Choose contentment (v. 17)
