Got Hope?

John 17:23-26

Biblical Hope = My confident expectation for the future based on the revealed character, promises, power, faithfulness, and actions of God

Big Idea: God’s love for me gives me hope for all eternity.

My Hope Comes As I:

1) Choose To Believe: Jesus Desires To Be With Me For All Eternity (v. 24)

Certainty Of My Eternity:
1) Through the promises Jesus proclaimed (John 14:1-4)
2) Through the path Jesus paved (John 14:5-6)
3) Through the prayer Jesus prayed (John 17:24)
4) Through the price Jesus paid (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10)

"For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with Him.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10

2) Choose To See: Fix My Eyes On The Glory Of God Continually (v. 24)

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
–2 Corinthians 3:18

“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:6

My Vision Test:
1) Where are my eyes currently focused?
2) Where is my mind currently focused?
3) Where is my heart currently focused?

3) Choose To Live: Transformed By God’s Unconditional Love Daily (v. 25-26)

Hope-Giving Realities For Me:
1) God’s uncompromising righteousness required a perfect sacrifice for my sins (v. 25)
2) God, from a heart of great love for me, sent His own Son, Jesus, to die for me (v. 25)
3) Jesus continually reveals God’s amazing character & unconditional love to me (v. 25-26)
4) God’s love provides salvation for me and continually transforms me (v. 26)
5) Jesus is the fulfillment of all God’s promises to me and is always with me (v. 26)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
– John 10:10

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him & rejoice with joy that is inexpressible & filled w/ glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
– 1 Peter 1:3-9
