Gospel Gifts Of Grace

Romans 8:1-11

Big Idea: In Christ We Are Freed From Condemnation By The Spirit To Walk Daily In Our New Life Of Gospel Transformation In The Spirit.

Gospel Gifts Of Grace:

1) A new freedom (v. 1-4)

How does God provide us a new freedom?
1. By the Spirit (v. 2)
2. Through His Son (v. 3-4)

2 Freedom-giving realities of our no condemnation in Christ (v. 1-2):
1. The no reality (v. 1-2)
2. The now reality (v. 1-2)

2) A new mindset (v. 5-8)

Fruit of a flesh-focused mind:
1. Death (v. 6)
2. Hostility towards God (v. 7)
3. No submission to God (v. 7)
4) No pleasing God (v. 8)

Fruit of a Spirit-focused mind:
1. Life (v. 6)

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
- Colossians 3:1-4

2. Peace (v. 6)

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me - practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
- Philippians 4:8-9

“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
- 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

3) A new assurance (v. 9-11)

3 Confidence-giving assurances of the Holy Spirit:
1) God’s presence (v. 9-11)
2) God’s power (v. 11)
3) God’s promise (v. 11)
