Romans 13:8-14
Big Idea: Welcome Other Believers As God Has Welcomed Us.
3 Truths necessary to cultivate a heart of welcome:
1. We have the same God: Jesus Christ (vs. 1-4)
Example of Peter from Acts 10:10-16 - 10: “and he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance 11 and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. 13 And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “By no means,Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.” 15 And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.” 16 This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.”
1 Peter 2:16 - 16 “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants [a] of God.”
2. We have the same goal: honoring God (vs.5-9)
3. We have the same judge: God Himself (vs. 10-12)
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
