God's Sovereignty Throughout Redemptive History

Romans 9:1-29

Big Idea: God Fulfills His Covenant Promise To Save His People Through His Grace, Mercy, And Providence.

“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable, are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways! ‘For who has known the mind of, the Lord, or who has been His counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that He, might be repaid?’ For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be, glory forever. Amen.”
– Romans 11:33-36

God’s Word has not failed:

1) God has been faithful to His promise to save throughout history (v. 1-13)

“For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart by the Spirit, not be the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.”
– Romans 2:28-29

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
– Romans 1:16

2) Salvation depends on God and His sovereign mercy (v. 14-18)

3) God’s glory is displayed powerfully through His providence and mercy (v. 19-23)

4) Salvation for Jews and Gentiles alike is by God’s grace alone (v. 24-29)
